Why Man United target Lautaro Martinez is better than Rashford

Marcus Rashford and Lautaro Martinez have both proven to be the main frontrunners for Manchester United and Inter Milan, respectively. While Martinez has been deployed mainly as a striker partnering Romelu Lukaku in Inter, the Englishman has been used on both wings for his side.

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Express), Man United have been handed a boost by Inter Milan, who have set a price tag of £95.6m for the Argentine hotshot who they signed for £22.7m.

Rashford joined United’s academy system at a very young age and made his debut for the main team during the 2015/16 season.

Rashford scored a brace recently, including a stunning free-kick from distance, which saw his side progress to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, while Martinez scored a goal in his recent outing against Brescia. Both players have been in decent form in their leagues.

Let’s take a look at their stats in the league matches and see who comes out on top.

Game Time

According to Whoscored, the United striker has played two games more than Inter’s Martinez. Rashford has played for 860 minutes in the league and Martinez has played only 639 minutes, being substituted in two games.

Rashford has completed an average of 1.6 dribbles in 860 minutes, whereas Martinez has 1.2 dribbles in just 639 minutes. On an average basis, Martinez tips Rashford to come out on top as a better dribbler.

Verdict

With an overall average of 7.26, Martinez has been more influential for his team and Rashford’s average of 7.22 is not bad for a 22-year-old striker who is adapting to the situation quickly.

It is no doubt that Martinez looks better when compared to Rashford. He can learn quickly and at the moment, he is in good form. His performances have caught the eyes of Manchester United who are trying to lure the Argentine from Inter, according to the mirror.
