Manchester United news: Red Devils should sign Bailey instead of Sancho

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s permanent appointment as Manchester United manager looks like a formality now after a brilliant run of results since his appointment in December.

Ole has lost just once in the league so far and despite being 5th in the league, they have a decent chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

One player who Manchester United have been linked with over the last few months is Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. The former Manchester City winger joined the Bundesliga outfit last summer and has taken the German top-flight by storm.

Having been directly involved in 24 goals this campaign, United look keen to bring him back to Manchester but Dortmund director Michael Zorc has confirmed that Jadon Sancho will not be sold in the summer.

Manchester United, despite all their financial power, could find it hard to lure the Englishmen but there is another Bundesliga starlet who could do just as well. Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey is a fantastic option and is in some ways, an upgrade over Sancho.

Bailey has been quite a star for Leverkusen since his arrival from Belgian side Genk in 2017. Predominantly a left winger, Bailey is capable of playing on both flanks and his pace and agility always seems to take your breath away.

The Jamaican is only 5ft 10in tall, but his stature has no negative impact on his game. He uses his low centre of gravity to brilliant effect in order to get away from his marker and his electric pace gets him away from them with ease.

Bailey’s work rate is tremendous and he is very rarely seen static. His pace allows him to intercept the play before going for an attack of his own. The 21-year-old possesses a fantastic left foot and his long shots are a terror for the opposition defence.

Bailey averages 1.8 shots at goal, 1.6 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this season. The former Genk man is a decent passer of the ball as well, averaging 1.8 crosses and 2.1 long balls every game this season.

Conclusion

The 21-year-old’s hunger and willingness to make an impact in the game is something that will be loved by English fans and his ability on the ball is sure to excite the Old Trafford faithful.

His directness in the attack is something that will suit Manchester United and he would be a dream signing to add to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
