Man United would dig their own grave by offering a £600,000-a-week deal to this lacklustre first-team ace

Why Man United should avoid handing Paul Pogba a £600,000-a-week deal

Paul Pogba is one of the best players in the world but his performances for Manchester United haven’t been all that great in recent months.

The Frenchman won the World Cup in 2018 but hasn’t been able to consistently star for the Red Devils.

Pogba has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Juventus via his agent, Mino Raiola but United are in no mood to sell, according to Diario Madridista (h/t Sun).

However, Raiola wants a new deal for Pogba where the Frenchman earns £600,000-a-week, and force United’s hand into selling him (h/t Sun).

The plan is to make such ridiculous demands over a new deal that United decide to sell him next season rather than lose him for nothing in the summer after that (h/t Sun).

United should rebuff all of Raiola’s offers

The Red Devils might be one of the biggest clubs in the world but they cannot be held to ransom like this.

Pogba hasn’t been at his best for a while and handing him a crazy contract will only lead to more problems.

Alexis Sanchez was handed a crazy contract after his move from Arsenal, and the Chilean failed at the Red Devils.

He was sent out on loan to Inter Milan with United still covering part of his wages (h/t Telegraph).

David de Gea also fought for a new deal and his performances haven’t been great for a while either.

Pogba might have a lot of talent but keeping him on inflated wages is a terrible business idea. The Red Devils need to revamp their squad and letting the Frenchman leave for a huge sum isn’t a bad idea.

The 26-year-old isn’t giving his best for the side and retaining someone who is unhappy will affect the other players too.

United can attract the top players and have the capability to spend big, so replacing Pogba wouldn’t be a problem.

They just need to find the right players for their system and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to work on that a lot.

Verdict

Pogba’s head might be in another country and there is no point in handing a new deal to a player who doesn’t want to be at the club.

United have fallen foul to big-money contracts in the past but they need to avoid making that mistake this time.
