Why Man United over Pep’s Man City could be the ideal destination for this £60m PL star

Why Man United over Man City could be the ideal destination for Ruben Neves

Manchester United are in the midst of a crisis as the club picked up 2 wins and 2 losses from their opening 4 games. There seems to be no stability or confidence in Jose Mourinho’s side.

According to the Irish Mirror, Manchester United have been linked with a move for £60m-rated Wolverhampton midfielder Ruben Neves. The Portuguese holding midfielder played a peripheral role for the club as they made their way into the Premier League this season.

Wolves clinched the Championship title in stylish fashion as well and Ruben Neves was very much a part of it. The midfielder made the move to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side last year and has since gone on to make a total of 43 appearances for the club, scoring 7 goals.

According to the report, Manchester City are also very much interested in acquiring the 21-year-old’s services. Pep Guardiola was unable to bring in Jorginho this summer, who ultimately joined Chelsea after snubbing the Cityzens. There seems to be a mini-war going on between both the Manchester clubs. But at this stage, a move to Manchester United seems the most feasible for the Wolves midfielder. City seem well established in all areas right now and under Guardiola, nobody’s place is safe. One of Manchester City’s star performers last season, Leroy Sane has been left out of the line-up in every single game so far.

The Red Devils, on the other hand, are in dire need of a midfielder like Neves. The former FC Porto midfielder is a tireless worker on and off the ball. Though he is classified as a defensive midfielder, Neves is also comfortable playing as a box-to-box midfielder.

He’s got good ability on and the ball and can pick out the sweetest of passes from any range. Neves may not be a prolific goalscorer but all of his goals in the Championship last season came from outside the box.

He has already scored a superb free-kick this season and has picked up 1 assist in the opening 4 games. He is also in charge of set-pieces at Wolverhampton and can take up the responsibility for Manchester United as well.

Ruben Neves

With Paul Pogba struggling to fit into this role, Ruben Neves can seamlessly fit into Jose Mourinho’s style. Though Mourinho is not the best of managers when it comes to budding youngsters, the fact that Neves is an extremely talented player could work in his favour.

The Red Devils have often looked blank and clueless in the middle of the park with no real distribution from the players. Ruben Neves is a neat passer and distributor of the ball. He will certainly provide the Red Devils with a lot more scoring opportunities in the final third and can get on the scoresheet himself.
