Manchester United haven’t enjoyed the most convincing of pre-season tours with the club so far, failing to win in normal time.
Jose Mourinho was critical of his team’s performance after their 4-1 loss to Liverpool in Michigan. Liverpool outclassed and outplayed the Red Devils as Mourinho watched on with frustration.
The Red Devils have maintained a low-key summer in terms of transfers completed, bringing in Lee Grant, Fred and Diogo Dalot. Mourinho didn’t seem to be happy with the club’s transfer activity as the manager confirmed he’d like to bring in two more players if possible.
Manchester United have since been linked with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in luring the Polish international to Old Trafford. But the German Champions have slapped a £70million price tag on their talisman which means Manchester United are going to have to dig deep into their pockets to land him.
What’s worse is that Lewandowski has demanded a £505,000-a-week contract in order to make the move. That’s about the same salary package that Alexis Sanchez landed when he arrived at Manchester.
Real Madrid are also said to be showing a keen interest on the former Borussia Dortmund star. Given that the club sold Cristiano Ronaldo, Real are going to need a new man to lead their line this season.
Lewandowski broke onto the scene during his time at Dortmund. The Polish forward made a name for himself across Europe. He scored a total of 74 goals in just 131 appearances for the German outfit, earning himself a move to the Allianz Arena. The Bavarian striker’s numbers are even better now, with Lewandowski scoring a total of 106 goals in 126 league appearances for Bayern.
Lewandowski made a total of 30 appearances in the German league last season, scoring 29 goals and providing 2 assists. He also scored 6 goals in 6 DFB Pokal appearances for the club. He has once again proven himself at the highest level.
He is one of the most devastating strikers to come up against in Europe. Lewandowski is always consistent and is a constant threat in front of goal.
He’s a fine finisher and a clinical striker. The 29-year-old is the kind of player who can bag a goal or two even when he’s having an off-day. But the demand for such a massive salary package is definitely a bit too much for a player who will be turning 30 this year.

Mourinho could look elsewhere and can probably bring in two top quality signings for £70m. Though Lewandowski guarantees goals and results on the pitch, it’s far too much money for a player who could go on at the same level for another two to three years at the maximum.
