Why Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne Would Be A Great Asset For Madrid: Go For It Zidane

Real Madrid are being linked with a January move to sign Manchester City’s high-flying attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. The former Chelsea star has been in brilliant form for the champions-elect and his stunning displays have put him up on the list of the best midfielders of the season so far. He also recently broke a Premier League record by becoming the quickest out-and-out midfielder to have been involved in 50 goals. It is not just his stats that are impressive – De Bruyne’s skills on the field are truly magnetic.

The £67.5m rated De Bruyne’s current contract only expires in 2021 but he is expected to sign a new deal sometime soon. Given his performances, the club should tie him down with a better deal but with interest from Real Madrid, it could be a dicey situation. The reigning European champions have not been in the best shape this time. Last season saw them break several records and the world poured in praises for the whole team and their manager Zinedine Zidane.

However, this time, they are struggling in the La Liga as well as in the Champions League. In fact, if they do not bring in worthy players in the January window, they might have to kiss their chances of defending both trophies goodbye. Hence, a move for De Bruyne does seem like a good option when one considers how influential he has been for Manchester City. If he were to make the move though, Isco may have to forego time on the field. But how do their stats measure up against each other? Let’s take a look.

Isco

Isco vs Kevin De Bruyne

In 17 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions this season, Isco has scored 4 goals and 3 assists. He has picked up one yellow card and averages 2.2 shots per game. He boasts of a pass success-rate of 88.5%, out of which 1.8 are key passes. The player wins about 0.2 aerial duels per match and has won 2 Man of The Match awards so far.

Kevin De Bruyne, on the other hand, has scored 5 goals and 10 assists in 19 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions so far. He has picked up 3 yellow cards but averages 2.1 shots per game. De Bruyne has a pass success-rate of 84%, out of which 2.7 have been key passes. Winning about 0.6 aerial duels per game, De Bruyne has won 5 Man of The Match awards this season.

Verdict

The choice seems clear – Kevin De Bruyne clearly trumps Isco on almost every level. Hence, if Real Madrid were to make a move for him, it will definitely be a good decision. However, given his indispensability to the City squad, Pep Guardiola is highly unlikely to let him leave.
