Man Utd signing this dazzling 23-year-old Bundesliga ace would help Solskjaer unearth a diamond in the rough

Why Mahmoud Dahoud could be a smart signing for Manchester United

Back in February 2016, a report from the Metro had claimed that Manchester United were interested in signing Mahmoud Dahoud, who was then playing for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Mahmoud Dahoud, 23, was regarded as one of Bundesliga’s best talents before he joined Borussia Dortmund in 2017. His career has stuttered a bit at Dortmund and while he has improved under the management of Lucien Favre, the midfielder has struggled to get enough opportunities at his current club.

The Syria-born midfielder should look to leave Dortmund in January if the situation doesn’t change. Manchester United must look to sign Dahoud if he decides to quit Signal Iduna Park.

Manchester United’s progress has stalled ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the permanent job as the manager and they have only won two games so far in the Premier League this season.

They signed only three players in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James over the summer, thus failing to bring in midfield reinforcements following the departures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.

The Red Devils are threadbare when it comes to their midfield options. The emergence of Scott McTominay has seen Nemanja Matic fall down the order with Paul Pogba being the first-choice central midfield option right now.

Matic, 31, has struggled to establish himself as a mainstay of the side under Solskjaer this season and has found his minutes rotated, while Fred is yet to make a mark this season.

There’s a clear need to bolster the midfield if Solskjaer is to guide his team to the Champions League. That being said, Dahoud could be a good fit at Old Trafford.

Dahoud is a versatile player, who can play anywhere across the midfield. He is quick, intelligent and is known for his excellent combination play with his teammates.

The 23-year-old likes to dictate the tempo of the game from a deeper position with his passing and distribution skills. A very good reader of the game, the Syria-born player is capable of threading deceptive balls in behind the opposing defence.

The former Gladbach starlet can pick out a pass in the final third and in all honesty, has shown a lot of composure and maturity on the pitch that belies his age. Even though his career has stuttered a bit, the energetic and hardworking Dahoud would fit seamlessly into Solskjaer’s system at Old Trafford.

Verdict

Thus, investing in Dahoud may not be a bad idea from United’s perspective. Considering Solskjaer’s summer signings have been United’s best players so far this season, the board should trust the Norwegian and back him with the signing of the 23-year-old midfielder.
