Forget it Klopp – Liverpool would be better off avoiding this in-form 19-year-old sensation and here’s why

Why Liverpool would be better off not signing Haaland

According to Mirror, Liverpool are of the many European clubs who are in the race to sign RB Salzburg teenage sensation, Erling Haaland. The 19-year-old has recently caught everyone’s eye with his extraordinary goalscoring streak.

The Norwegian striker scored a brace in Salzburg’s 2-3 defeat against Napoli in the Champions League’s group stages. Even though Haaland could not help his team win or hold the Italian giants to a draw, he reached another milestone with his two goals. He became the first player to score six goals in his first three Champions League appearances.

Haaland, whose father Alf-Inge Haaland played in the English Premier League with Manchester City and Leeds United, also became the second-youngest player to score in each of his first three Champions League appearances after Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

Haaland became the third youngest player to score a Champions League hat-trick when he scored three goals in Salzburg’s 6-2 win over Belgian side Genk last month. He also became the first teenager to score more than once on his Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick for Manchester United against Fenerbahce in September 2004.

Haaland began his season with red hot form scoring a hat-trick in Salzburg’s league opener. With the brace, he took his tally for the season to a staggering 20 goals in just 13 appearances for the club.

The tally includes his four hat-tricks so far this season. He also scored nine goals in one game for Norway’s Under-20 team as they defeated Honduras 12-0 in a World Cup game in May.

While Manchester United are believed to be in the lead position to sign the teenager, Haaland earlier said he was bored with his transfer talks.

Jurgen Klopp already has two world-class strikers in his squad. While Roberto Firmino is hailed as one of the best strikers in the Premier League at the moment, Divock Origi is the Reds’ super substitute.

Firmino is 28 while Origi is just 24. Both strikers are fully committed to Liverpool and have stayed away from transfer rumours.

Liverpool are in no urgency to spend such big amount for a position already full. Liverpool must focus on their midfield options where they could struggle in the near future if not reinforced.
