Liverpool have started the season off in perfect fashion with a 100% record. After a couple of leggy performances in the first two games of the season, the game against Arsenal was just the kind of game that the Reds needed to click into gear for the rest of the season.
One player who has been extremely impressive for the Reds since the start of the season has been right-back and local boy Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is going from strength to strength on the right flank, creating chances all game, registering assists, taking set-pieces and being lethal.
He’s not the most defensively stable right-back but he more than makes up for it with his ability to be a playmaker on the right side. However, there isn’t anyone in the current Liverpool set-up who is there to be an able back-up.
One thing that Liverpool will be aware of is that they have a lot of stop-gaps for many of their players but they aren’t necessarily great backups. One player who was linked with a move to Anfield in the summer was Moroccan international and current Ajax player, Noussair Mazraoui.
The 21-year-old was a big part of the very successful Ajax side from last season that made it to the Champions League semi-finals. He made 48 appearances in all competitions and scored 4 goals, also notching up 5 assists from right-back.
At Ajax, you are always expected to play on the front foot and that should be no problem for the Moroccan.
He is an Ajax academy graduate, has a great footballing education, and would bring that to the Liverpool side along with youth. Another very interesting aspect about Mazraoui is that he’s capable of playing in different positions.

He’s also played as a defensive midfielder and a central midfielder last season, and even played one game as a left-back because of his understanding of the game and technical ability.
Mazraoui is also fairly physical at 1.83m’s tall and wouldn’t shirk the physical challenges that he’ll have to test himself against in the Premier League.
Liverpool would’ve had a great asset had they tried harder for the 21-year-old’s signature. Liverpool will be heading into a busy set of fixtures where squad depth will be tested very soon, and Klopp must move for Mazraoui when the transfer window reopens in January.
