According to Transfermarket (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are reportedly interested in Red Bull Salzburg teenager Karim Adeyemi.
German Adeyemi currently plays for Salzburg’s feeder club FC Liefering on loan in the Austrian second division.
The 17-year-old caught the Reds’ attention (h/t Liverpool Echo) with his 2 goals and 1 assist in 3 matches in the UEFA Youth League.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are flying high as they remain unbeaten on top of the Premier League table.
With 12 wins from 13 games, the Jurgen Klopp-led side have continued their scintillating form from last year and are 8 points ahead of second-placed Leicester City.
The European champions have now scored a total of 30 goals this season, with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah doing the bulk of the scoring.
Firmino, who is in his fifth year with the Merseyside club, has tasted immense success under Klopp but that has not been the case with the out-of-favour Divock Origi.
Origi, who reached Anfield a year before Firmino, has not been as successful as the 28-year old Brazilian.
A few loan spells at French outfit Lille (2014-15) and German side Vfl Wolfsburg (2017-18) has definitely helped the Belgian improve.
Still, Origi just has 31 goals to his name after featuring in over 100 matches for the Reds.
This calls for reinforcements up front. An injury to either of the two strikers could dent Liverpool’s hopes for a Premier League title, which has eluded them for long.
Fortunately, Liverpool have Under-17 World Cup winner Rhian Brewster in their ranks.
The young English striker has given Liverpool something to hope, with 4 goals and 1 assist in 7 games for their Under-23 side.
Hence, Liverpool targeting teenage sensation Akemi does not come as a surprise for a club aiming to stay on top.
Meanwhile, Akemi’s potential as a major goal threat is quite evident through his performances in the Austrian second-tier.
This season, he has already scored 5 goals and assisted 4 times from 11 matches, thereby attracting the Reds’ interest.
With not many options in the striker’s role, Klopp must sign this young attacker as a long-term investment.
Moreover, Adeyemi would provide the German with more attacking options not just for the time being but for the future.
