A no-brainer: Liverpool would be foolish to not offer an extension to their £120k-a-week work horse

Liverpool Opinion – Should Liverpool offer new deal to James Milner?

Liverpool are having a fantastic season in which they are embroiled in one of the interesting title races and also have an opportunity to go to the latter stages of the Champions League.

While the signings made in the summer have made a huge difference in improving the spine of the team, some of the players who have been there even before Jurgen Klopp arrived have justified their stay at Anfield.

One of those is James Milner. The 33-year-old arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2015 from Manchester City on a free transfer under the reign of Brendan Rodgers.

However, since Klopp’s arrival, the former Englishman has been one of the key players in the squad. Now with his contract set to end at the conclusion of this season, here’s why the Reds must offer him an extension:

Milner should be used as much as possible

James Milner is one of those players who gives everything for the team, irrespective of the position he plays in. He has played in central midfield, right wing, left wing, left-back and right-back for Liverpool.

During the 2016-17 season, when Alberto Moreno wasn’t able to win the trust of the manager, the £120,000-a-week veteran played the whole season at left-back, doing enough to make that spot his own in a short space of time.

Talking about the current campaign, he is one of the few players who seems to have covered most ground.

Furthermore, off the field, he is a real leader of men who can handle himself and can cheer up the team to perform well and get the desired result they want.

Conclusion

All in all, Milner’s utility and leadership is something that shouldn’t be understated at Anfield and Liverpool should offer him a new deal. The 33-year-old can still play a couple of seasons at the top level and help Klopp’s men to reach greater heights.
