Why Liverpool Should Make A Surprise Signing By Bringing In This Bayern Munich Star

Why Liverpool Should Turn Their Attention To Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches

Liverpool have all but given up their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita. The 22-year old was the Reds’ top transfer target this summer, and they tried their damnedest to bring the Guinean to Anfield, with bids in the range of £70million. But, the Bundesliga club have made it clear that they have no intention of selling one of their most prized assets, ahead of the club’s first ever UEFA Champions League season.

This has left Liverpool in a bit of a quandary as manager Jurgen Klopp was extremely intent on getting his hands on Keita ahead of the coming season. The Merseysiders have turned their eyes towards possible alternatives for the Leipzig midfielder and their eyes seem set on another talent from the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches, according to reports from German outlet SportBild.

The 19-year old Portugal international was the breakout star of 2015/16 season with Benfica and was one of the most coveted players in the market with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea vying for his signature. But it was Bayern who managed to close the deal for the midfielder, who was also a vital part of the Portugal national team that won the UEFA Euro 2016 in France.

However, things haven’t gone according to plans for the recipient of the 2016 Golden Boy award in Bavaria. In his debut season for Die Roten, Sanches made just 25 appearances across all competitions, with most of them being from the bench, as he struggled to establish himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s team. As a result, the 19-year old also lost his place in the Portuguese national team that traveled to Russia for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Despite his struggles in Germany over the past year, Sanches has shown enough potential to be deemed worthy of taking a risk upon. The 19-year old is someone who has all the traits of developing into a complete, all-round midfielder. He has the pace and the trickery when on the ball, and possesses good upper body strength that he uses to brush aside opponents. He can a pick a pass with very good accuracy and has demonstrated good composure when on the ball. Apart from all this, the youngster also brings an added bite to the middle of the park with his tackling and defensive nous.

The former Benfica man has also displayed great versatility, being able to play in a deep midfield role and control the tempo of the game and in a more orthodox central midfield role from where he can perform the box-to-box role to great effect. Sanches has also been used as a No.10 on quite a few occasions and can play from the wide midfield as well.

Sanches might just be at the beginning of his career, but has already drawn comparisons with legends like Clarence Seedorf and Edgar Davids. While all those comparisons may very well be premature, that does indicate the prodigious talent and the enormous amount of potential that the teenager possesses.

The 19-year old may have endured a difficult start to life in Germany, but did display his innate abilities in the pre-season friendlies against the likes of Chelsea last month. Given Klopp’s history of nurturing young talent, Sanches has the potential to grow into a world-beater under the German’s tutelage. With reports claiming that the midfielder might be available for £23million, it will be a great piece of investment for Liverpool as they will be bringing in a player with a very bright future ahead of him.
