Liverpool making a move to sign this consistent 15-goal hitman would provide ideal backup for front trio – Agreed?

Why Liverpool should make a move for Kevin Volland in January

It’s still early days in a 38-game season, but Liverpool’s five-point gap over Manchester City at the top is already the largest after five games in Premier League history.

The Reds are flying in the Premier League at the moment and showed a resilient side to overcome a dogged Chelsea performance at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Manchester City won the title with 100 points in 2018 and 98 points in May. Despite doing little business all summer, Liverpool are ready to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title yet again.

As a unit right now, the Merseysiders have the best attack. In Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, Jurgen Klopp has a front three that is the best in the world.

Regardless of how brilliant they have been, a weakness in Klopp’s side could arguably be up-front, where they have little in terms of quality back-up for Roberto Firmino.

Divock Origi scored some memorable goals for Liverpool as a substitute last season which includes his winning header against Everton at Anfield and his strike versus Tottenham in the Champions League final. Yet, the Belgian cannot be fully relied upon due to his injury problems.

With matches coming thick and fast for the European champions across all fronts, Klopp will need to sign a quality back-up for Firmino in January to avoid a potential burnout. That being said, the Reds should make a move for Bayer Leverkusen forward, Kevin Volland.

Kevin Volland, 27, who was heavily linked with Liverpool some years ago, has done very well for Bayer Leverkusen since joining from Hoffenheim in 2016. He scored 15 goals across all competitions last campaign and 14 in 2017/18.

The Bavaria-born forward has been a consistent goalscorer for the last couple of seasons and exactly fits the bill at Anfield.

The German is blessed with a good turn of pace and can dribble with the ball at high speed to cause a lot of problems for the opposition defenders. He can also hold the ball up well inside the opposition penalty box and is not afraid to shoot when an opportunity presents itself.

Volland not only has the innate ability to create space with his nimble footwork but he also has the vision and the guile to set up goals with defence-splitting passes.

The addition of a player of Volland’s goalscoring pedigree will undeniably add more depth to Klopp’s squad at Anfield. The ex-Hoffenheim star will not only be a good back-up for Mane, Salah and Firmino but will also add more goals to their side in the coming years.

Verdict

At 27, Volland has perhaps entered the prime years in the game and as a flexible back-up in the forward department, playing anywhere from wide to the main man up-front, he would be a fantastic option for Klopp’s side.
