According to Metro, Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, with the report suggesting that the Reds are scouting the youngster with a view to a possible move in the future.
The 20-year-old Nigerian has been a real revelation in Europe since his move to Villarreal back in 2017, with the talented starlet earning rave reviews for his dazzling displays in the Spanish top-flight.
After furthering his development in the club’s youth ranks for the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign, Chukwueze earned his first-team breakthrough at Villarreal last season and made an immediate impact at the senior level, registering 5 goals and 2 assists in 26 La Liga appearances.
And the jet-heeled left-footed wide player has already hit the ground running this term as well, netting his first goal of the season in the club’s 4-4 draw against Granada in August.
Rated highly by several well-known scouts across Europe, Chukwueze has drawn comparisons with former Dutch international Arjen Robben, owing to his blistering pace, eye for goal and ability to dribble past defenders in one-on-one situations. (h/t Metro)
Interestingly, Chukwueze was linked with a move to Arsenal a couple of years ago when he first moved to Europe from his homeland and, while a move to English football had failed to materialize at that time, the 20-year-old might as well earn a coveted switch to the Premier League in the foreseeable future, with Liverpool understood to be keeping close tabs on his progress.
Regarded as one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe following his incredible rise in Spain over the past twelve months, the Nigerian prodigy has been tipped for stardom at the highest level and Liverpool’s interest in the youngster hardly comes as a big surprise.
To put things into perspective, Chukwueze is a player with a mountain of potential and it is easy to see that Liverpool could bag a real coup if they manage to lure the Nigerian starlet to Anfield.
The 20-year-old is likely to spark a fierce transfer battle in the near future if he continues to develop down the right path at Villarreal and Liverpool would need to use all their pulling power to land the signature of one of Europe’s burgeoning talents.
Chukwueze, who scored his first senior international goal for Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier in the summer, has already shown that he has the skillset and the X-Factor in his game to torment defences and the Reds have every reason to look at him as someone who could go on to establish himself as a first-team regular in the years to come.
Looking at things from the player’s perspective, there are few better than Jurgen Klopp when it comes to blooding youngsters and the prospect of future stardom at a club like Liverpool should be appealing enough to lure him to Anfield.
Realistically, though, Liverpool are probably only looking at Chukwueze as one for the future, given the current level of competition for places in attacking ranks.
The likes of Shaqiri and Origi have found hard to displace the devastating front trio of Firmino, Salah and Mane, and Chukwueze isn’t going to have much joy in that regard.

That, however, shouldn’t deter Liverpool’s interest in the highly-rated 20-year-old and they should snap him up as a long-term prospect at the earliest to lay down a strong platform for the future.
