Liverpool would strike gold by signing this 25-year-old Danish ace to enhance attacking unit in January

Why Liverpool should go all out to sign Riza Durmisi in January

Liverpool are in sensational form at the moment and have chalked up 16 straight wins in league matches – a run that has helped them open up a five-point gap over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the top of the table after just seven games. They are the only team unbeaten in this Premier League season.

After winning the Champions League last season, Jurgen Klopp was expected to spend heavily to bolster his squad in a bid to go one better this year and win the Premier League title. But the Reds boss invested in a couple of young players with high potential, meaning there were no marquee arrivals at Anfield during the transfer window.

As far as the departures are concerned, the Reds sold Danny Ings, Simon Mignolet and Ryan Kent, whilst releasing Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno. The exit of Moreno has left Andrew Robertson with no real cover at left-back.

Establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in Europe, Robertson has been pivotal to Liverpool’s success and delivered 13 assists for the Merseyside outfit last season.

However, just like any other top football club that challenges in various tournaments, Liverpool too, need a back-up for Robertson, as they are just a long-term Robertson injury away from finding themselves fielding James Milner, Joe Gomez or an uncapped youngster at left-back.

That being said, Liverpool must make a move for Lazio’s Riza Durmisi, who was heavily linked with a move to Anfield a couple of seasons ago.

Riza Durmisi, 25, made the move to Lazio a year ago from Real Betis but managed only 19 competitive appearances last season, most of them off the bench. He had numerous injury problems to his back and thigh that led to him enjoying very limited football for Lazio.

The Danish international, of Albanian descent, had two years in Spain with Real Betis after coming up through the Brondby academy. He is under contract with Lazio until June 2023 but with the Serie A outfit leaving him out of the Europa League squad, chances of Durmisi leaving in January has become higher.

Liverpool should be all over Durmisi in January. Fast, skilful and extremely confident, he’s got good experience and is already a senior international for Denmark. Naturally attack-minded, the 25-year-old loves to get forward and link-up play with his attacking teammates down the left channel.

A set-piece expert, great with his positional work and experienced enough to know when to hold his place at the back, the former Brondby man give Liverpool a year of good cover for Robertson, whilst competing with him for a spot in Klopp’s starting XI.

Hence, the Reds shouldn’t hesitate to rekindle their interest in Durmisi during the January transfer window.
