Why Liverpool Should Avoid Signing This 26-year Old Defensive Midfielder From La Liga

Jurgen Klopp’s summer has been a busy one so far. He has completed 4 signings so far and a few players are rumoured to be in his radar. Liverpool need to make 2-3 more signings to make a balanced squad. And so, Klopp is still looking for new players. Malaga’s midfielder Ignacio Camacho had been linked with Liverpool heavily in April and May. But then, the rumours faded away and the deal had stalled. Fresh links between Liverpool and Camacho emerged this Friday, with reports suggesting that Liverpool are ready to pay Camacho’s release clause worth 15 million pounds. But do Liverpool need Camacho’s services?

Ignacio Camacho is a 26-year-old Spanish midfielder and plays as a central midfielder for Malaga. Camacho joined Malaga from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has been a regular member of the starting eleven. Last season, Camacho made 23 appearances for Malaga in the La Liga but his performances were average. Camacho scored 2 goals, registered 1 assist and created 13 chances over the entire season. Being a defensive midfielder, it was his defensive contribution which drew attention from Klopp. Camacho plays in the centre of the midfield and also as a defensive midfielder. The player loves to make tackles. And he does that quite well, though he commits fouls quite often. Camacho is a talented young central midfieder but he lacks discipline. The work that he puts in is much less than what other players of his age do. Klopp has clearly stated that he will only sign players who put in their 100%. Also, he was not consistent with his performances. In some matches, he showed what he is capable of while in some matches, he showed that he needs a lot of development.

Klopp’s preferred formation last season was the 4-2-3-1. Liverpool have Emre Can, Joe Allen, James Milner, Jprdan Henderson and new signing Marko Grujic fighting for the two places at the centre of the park. Emre Can was one of Liverpool’s best players last season. He made his presence felt in the midfield and was consistent with his performances. His name will be at the top of the list of the players making it to the starting eleven. 4 players are already in contention for that 2nd position.

Now if Liverpool do sign Ignacio Camacho, he will hardly get any game time. Also, Liverpool have no European football next season, so they do not need a deep squad. Klopp has hinted that the squad needs to be trimmed and in that case, Liverpool should not sign Ignacio Camacho. Before signing a defensive central midfielder, Liverpool need to bring in a left back who can replace Alberto Moreno. After that, Liverpool also need a 20-goal-a-season striker. And then maybe a defensive midfielder. So Liverpool should avoid signing Ignacio Camacho.
