Liverpool signing this young German star for just £22m would be nothing but daylight robbery by Klopp

Liverpool opinion: Klopp wants Julian Brandt – a good move by the German?

The Mirror has reported that Liverpool are ready to make a move for Bundesliga star Julian Brandt, with the Reds open to trigger his release clause. In great form this season, Brandt struggled under previous manager Heiko Herrlich but that has changed with the appointment of Peter Bosz.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager is a very offensive manager and that is just what the doctor has ordered for Brandt. Before Bosz’s arrival, the 22-year-old managed to produce just four goals in 17 Bundesliga games but as mentioned, that has changed with the managerial change.

After that, Brandt has transformed and become a key part of the team. The German has scored and created 11 goals, with the club winning all but five games. An incredible blend of creativity, pace and power, Brandt is easily one of the most promising young players around.

The fact that he only has a £22million release clause (Bild) makes it absolutely nonsensical for Liverpool to not make a move for the young forward. The Reds need an injection of creativity into their side and the sooner they add it, the better.

While Jordan Henderson has provided that burst of energy of late along with Xherdan Shaqiri earlier in the season, neither of them is as talented as Julian Brandt. With James Milner’s contract expiring and the fact that he’s 33 years old, it emphasises why a move needs to be made.

While Brandt isn’t a central midfielder by trade, the 22-year-old played in that position under Peter Bosz. It’s where he’s looked dangerous and very creative, using his pace and spatial awareness to good effect.

That has changed the course of Bayer Leverkusen’s offensive system, with everything effectively running through Julian Brandt and Kai Havertz. It’s why Liverpool need him and at £22million (Bild), it makes him an absolute steal.

For Liverpool, this makes a lot of sense and at the age of 22, Brandt has a lot of potential to improve and will only grow going forward. His mentality and physical state will help make the transition into the Premier League that much easier.
