Manchester United opinion: Klopp must beat the Red Devils for Rodriguez

The Bristol Live has reported that both Liverpool and Manchester United are in the race for Real Madrid/Bayern Munich star James Rodriguez. The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Bayern Munich and has done relatively well, producing 13 goals so far.

However, Bayern Munich’s struggles have seeped in the Colombian superstar’s brain, which has affected his performances. That combined with a few recurring injuries have affected the Bayern Munich number 10 over the course of his two year loan spell.

The last of his lineage (according to Marca), Rodriguez has divided opinion like no other player in the world (barring Mesut Ozil). A supreme creator of goals, the Colombian has been the spark of hope that the club have needed in recent weeks.

Despite Bayern Munich’s struggles this season, Rodriguez’s talent has shone in recent weeks, with four goals and three assists in his last six games. A phenomenal statistic for any player, it shows just how good the set-piece specialist can be when he hits a rich vein of form.

It also showcases why Real Madrid made him their last Galactico with an incredible £71million fee (BBC).

It is not surprising to see that both Liverpool and Manchester United are chasing him, but it’s the Reds that need the Colombian more. While Liverpool have a near perfect team that does lack depth in certain areas, what they are missing is their very own Mario Gotze/Shinji Kagawa.

Someone who is a creative attacking midfielder or someone who can break a stern defence. While Xherdan Shaqiri has done his best, the Swiss star has his limits.

Nabil Fekir was heavily linked with a move before they stepped out of the deal (Mirror). That being said, if there is one man who comes as close as Fekir for Liverpool, it’s James Rodriguez.

Similar in a lot of ways, the main difference between the two is that Fekir still needs that big money move in his career, with the Lyon star clawing his way up from the youth teams. But that’s in the past and Liverpool need to move forward, via James Rodriguez.

Conclusion

If Liverpool have even the smallest of chances to sign James Rodriguez, then that is a move they should make with their eyes closed. Signing Rodriguez would be an ambitious step and they should beat Man United to land this world-class star.
