Liverpool signing this £21.6m Serie A star would add a lot of depth to a key area for Klopp

Why Liverpool must go all out to sign Dejan Kulusevski

The Daily Star suggests that Liverpool are planning a potential summer move for Atalanta’s playmaker Dejan Kulusevski, who is currently on loan at Parma.

Kulusevski joined Atalanta’s youth system from Swedish side Brommapojkarna in 2016. He made his Serie A debut in January 2019, coming off the bench in a 5-0 win against Frosinone. Later he could play only 5 matches for Atlanta.

He then joined Parma on a season-long loan and has made a name for himself, with top clubs like Liverpool, Inter Milan and Juventus attracted by his impressive displays, the report claims. In 14 league games this season, the Swede has scored 3 times and provided 5 assists.

The 19-year-old made his international debut for Sweden last month and has received rave reviews. Liverpool have also sent scouts to watch him from close quarters, according to Daily Star.

Thriving under Roberto D’Aversa, the teenager has been a key member in the squad this season. His noticeable performance came against Genoa this term, where he dominated with two assists and a goal. Against Inter Milan, he caused all sorts of troubles for a world-class defender in Diego Godin.

Having said this, Liverpool must go all to sign him in the summer. Klopp can add Kulusevski to improve the depth in the Reds squad.

After winning the Champions League last season, Klopp’s men are aiming to get their hands on the coveted Premier League trophy this term. They are currently on top of the table, leaving others far behind them.

In Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri, Liverpool have some excellent wingers to cover the right flank. But injuries to both of them have been an issue of late. Salah has been consistently delivering for the Reds, while Shaqiri seems to be out of favour.

In the midfield department, Klopp has a plethora of talents in Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and more. Milner and Henderson are quite in the twilight of their careers and Lallana has played fewer games.

In this regard, Kulusevski would be a fine addition to the squad. Predominantly a right-winger, he has also been on the top of his game as an attacking midfielder. His versatility and creativity are to be noticed, from which the Reds can surely benefit.

According to Whoscored, the playmaker has registered 1.5 shots, 2.4 key passes, and 2.4 dribbles per game in the league this term. He is known for his hard-working qualities and can link up the play. He is effective both in the team’s build-up play and in their counter-attacks.

Verdict

To solve their problems in depth, Klopp can put his faith in the youngster, who has done brilliantly so far. His creativity can come into play at the latter stages of a game and with a youthful nature, he would surely be effective for the team.

Liverpool must not find any difficulty in forking out £21.6m which Atalanta want for their playmaker. He would also be incredible for the Reds’ future.
