Why Liverpool shouldn’t sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea

According to a report in Metro, Premier League leaders Liverpool have made a late attempt to convince Callum Hudson-Odoi to snub Bayern Munich and take a turn towards Anfield. The winger is expected to leave Chelsea this month, with the German giants already making four bids, the last one reaching £35m.

Though the Blues want the teenager to stay, there is a suggestion that they need to cash in on the player because his contract expires in 2020. The best option from their viewpoint would be to insert a buy-back clause.

The Stamford Bridge outfit club have tabled a new contract offer worth £70,000-a-week, but the player has made it clear that he wants first-team football and not the money.

As per the report, Liverpool will provide Bayern the competition for the signature of Hudson-Odoi. They have already met with his brother Bradley, who is also his agent, earlier this month.

Here’s why the Reds shouldn’t sign the player:

Liverpool should wait until summer to make the signings

The Reds are currently leading the Premier League, having a four-point lead over defending champions Manchester City. We all know they have one of the best front three in Europe, and all of them have shown in various times why they are right up there.

Now, the cliche is that Jurgen Klopp would require backup options if any one of the three gets injured for a certain period of time or needs rest after a lot of games. This is where Liverpool are a bit short.

They have Xherdan Shaqiri as an option but neither Daniel Sturridge nor Divock Origi seems to be the personnel to step up when required.

Hence, we saw a considerable drop in performance from the Reds in the cup games, because the usual front three didn’t feature from the start. Hence, it is clear that the club need more quality on the bench.

However, signing Callum Hudson-Odoi won’t make much sense. The Chelsea winger is a fantastic player who will be a real asset wherever he goes but spending big money on a player who hasn’t played enough top-flight football would be risky.

Furthermore, from the player’s viewpoint, he wants regular first-team action and at Anfield, he would be down the pecking order behind Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Hence, Liverpool must avoid signing Callum Hudson-Odoi.
