Why Liverpool Should Propose To Complete A Cash+Player Deal To Sign €30m In-form Midfielder

Why Liverpool Should Take Up The Part-Exchange Deal And Offer Daniel Sturridge To Sevilla For Steven N’zonzi

With all the furore surrounding Steven N’zonzi’s possible move to the Premier League in January, a slew of clubs have been linked. Arsenal are understood to be interested but Liverpool could also make a move for him by offering Daniel Sturridge in a part-exchange deal if reports are to be believed. Jurgen Klopp may have to find a replacement for Emre Can if he leaves them in January and considering the situation of N’zonzi at Sevilla, this may be an opportune moment to bring the 28-year-old to Anfield.

Interestingly, they were linked with him in the summer but it fell through at the last minute. It would have been difficult for them to sign him back then but now, it could go a lot smoother. Ever since he was taken off during a game against Liverpool in the Champions League, N’zonzi’s relationship has allegedly taken a sour turn with manager Eduardo Berizzo. He has not featured for them since then, making it increasingly likely for the player to seek alternative options. The opportunity to work with a manager like Klopp will surely be enticing for the former Stoke City player.

He may have reached a standstill with Sevilla but there is no denying his talent. The €30m rated N’zonzi brought about a superior sense of force in the midfield ever since he joined the Spanish club in 2015. He boasts of a lot of attributes that suit Klopp’s style of play, making him a worthy prospect.

N’zonzi is physically strong yet light with the ball at his feet. He uses his pace quite effectively and boasts of Premier League experience as well. His physicality will certainly benefit Liverpool – especially since his box-to-box ability is something they have been lacking.

Another reason as to why Klopp needs a player like him is Jordan Henderson’s inability to make an impact. He may be the Liverpool captain but his contribution on the field has been minimal. The Reds are in no danger as such but if they are to fuel their Premier League aspirations as the season progresses, they need a player who is more than capable of doing the job. And as of now, Henderson does not seem like a good option in the midfield.

Hence, if the Reds get a chance to offload Daniel Sturridge to lure N’zonzi to Anfield, they must take up that opportunity. It has been quite evident that Klopp does not include Sturridge in his plans so even if the deal does happen, Liverpool do not stand to lose much from it. After all, he has barely featured much so far this season and it seems highly unlikely that the German manager might choose him ahead of Roberto Firmino at any point.

Sturridge is also expected to leave in search of more time on the field. Instead of simply selling him for money, the Reds could stand to gain a lot more if they opt to take up this offer.
