Liverpool are heading down the right avenue by negotiating a new contract with this key 27-year-old star

Why Liverpool are right in offering Sadio Mane a new deal

Sadio Mane was in blistering form for Liverpool last season and has started this campaign with a bang too.

The 27-year-old has found the back of the net four times in five Premier League games this season, while he also scored a brace in the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea.

The Senegal star also shared the Premier League’s Golden Boot last season and French reports (h/t Liverpool Echo) claim that the Reds have opened contract talks about extending Mane’s deal.

The forward is contracted with Liverpool till 2023, but this is another smart move by FSG and the club.

Protecting the most important assets

The 27-year-old only signed a new deal with the Reds in 2018 after joining from Southampton in 2016 (h/t Guardian).

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino had also signed new deals around Mane’s 2018 deal (h/t Guardian) but this has been the plan of Liverpool during this summer.

The Reds didn’t sign any major players this summer while they tied down several first-team players on new deals.

Although Mane only signed a new contract in 2018, this decision by the Reds is perfect given how he has played over the past 12 months.

The Senegal international took up the goal-scoring mantle when Salah struggling to find the back of the net.

Mane is also one of the most hard-working players in the team and seems to put the team above everything else.

Sadio Mane

The 27-year-old has formed a great relationship with Andy Robertson and has taken his game to another level.

The former Southampton attacker seems to be finding the net when we need it the most, and Liverpool need to tie down one of their stars due to his increased performance levels.

Mane still has a few years at the top level, and this new deal should keep him as a Red for the best part of his career.

Verdict

The Reds have done extremely well in keeping hold of their stars in the summer.

Salah might get a lot of the plaudits due to his performances, however, Mane has become one of the best in the Premier League.
