Since Jurgen Klopp took over as Liverpool’s head coach, Liverpool have been linked with a lot of players from Bundesliga, especially Borussia Dortmund. Klopp was Dortmund’s coach before he replaced Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. The latest Dortmund player to be linked with a move to Anfield is 30-year-old Polish winger Jakub Blaszczykowski. The winger was a key player for Dortmund when Klopp was in charge of the German club. But he spent last season on loan at Fiorentina and it was a bad season for him. Jakub saw a dip in form but he regained his form durung the EUROs. The winger was one of the main reasons why Poland reached the quarter-finals. His performances have impressed Klopp and Blaszczykowski is on Klopp’s radar. But do Liverpool actually need Jakub Blaszczykowski?
The Polish winger was a key figure in Dortmund’s squad when Klopp was the head coach. But last season, he was sent out on loan to Serie A outfit Fiorentina. At Fiorentina, he made only 15 appearances over the entire season, scoring twice and registering 1 assist. Before that, in 155 appearances for Dortmund, he had scored 29 goals in all competitions.
Liverpool have been linked with many wingers, primarily left backs. Liverpool need a replacement for the left back position. Also, Liverpool have signed Sadio Mane and he will be played in the right wing as an attacking midfieder. Liverpool also have Adam Lallana as a second option for that position. Jakub Blaszczykowski plays primarily as a right winger and if Liverpool sign him, he will again spend a season with very less game time. Also, he is 30 now and he is quite old considering the average age of Liverpool’s squad. Klopp is rebuilding Liverpool and he needs to sign young players. All the signings that he has made so far are young players. Mane, Karius, Matip and Grujic, all are in their early twenties.
Liverpool need to strengthen their left wing and Blaszczykowski does not play at the left. Blaszczykowski also plays through the centre but Liverpool have Coutinho, Firmino and Mane who can play through the centre as well. Liverpool also have Lazar Markovic, a proper, pacey winger. So, Liverpool do not need Blaszczykowski right now.
