Leicester signing this 23-year-old midfield master would be a key move in pushing for a top-6 spot

Why Leicester should sign Sampdoria star Dennis Praet

According to Sky Sports, Leicester City have agreed on an £18m fee for Sampdoria’s Dennis Praet. The Belgian midfielder is an attacking midfielder, who is a promising talent but has not made the step up.

Praet’s strengths are higher up the field, as he’s got good close control and can navigate himself out of tight areas while being capable of playing a final pass.

He always makes himself available to receive the ball and would be giving the likes of James Maddison and Youri Tielemans some much-needed competition.

The 23-year-old can occasionally hold on to the ball instead of looking for an early pass. He also displays a great work ethic and is always ready to trackback, which will be ideal for a manager like Brendan Rodgers, since he expects a certain intensity while closing the ball down to retain possession.

Sampdoria are known for helping nurture and educate young players. We only have to look at Milan Skriniar and Mauro Icardi, two of the very best players in the Serie A, to appreciate Sampdoria’s younger players and what one can expect from Praet.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to stamp his identity on the team. They impressed towards the end of last season but they have still struggled to break down teams in the bottom half of the table.

Leicester are at their best when they’re playing against top sides and they need to find the same consistency against the rest of the league. Hence, it is important they maintain their consistency and this will only be possible with a bigger squad.

Leicester have also signed Ayoze Perez which will make certain that their attack is even stronger than it was last year. However, they have lost an important leader in Harry Maguire, who has now joined Manchester United.

Conclusion

Leicester, like many of the teams just below the top-six, don’t have squad players who can replace the quality of the first-team.

If Maddison or Tielemans are injured, Praet would be a fantastic option to call upon and he could even replace them if his performances are better. Leicester have a young and exciting squad and Praet would fit in perfectly.
