According to a report from the Leicester Mercury, Leicester City have scouted Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy over the weekend.
Serhou Guirassy, 23, only joined Amiens permanently in the summer, arriving from German side FC Koln in a £5m deal, having spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at the club, scoring three goals in 13 appearances.
The Frenchman has scored three goals and supplied an assist in nine Ligue 1 games for Amiens this season. The rangy striker’s impressive form has caught a lot of attention from clubs across Europe, including Serie A trio Roma, Bologna and Chievo, adds the report.
With the 23-year-old impressing in Ligue 1, Leicester City must look to bring him during the January transfer window.
Before the arrival of new manager Brendan Rodgers in March of this year, it looked as if Jamie Vardy’s career was fading into obscurity.
Vardy now has 15 goals in 19 Premier League games since the Northern Irishman took charge of the Foxes. He notched his sixth goal of the campaign in the 2-1 win over Burnley on Saturday and he sits fourth in the Premier League’s goalscorers chart.
However, if the former England international went down with an injury that would keep him out of action then the Foxes are very limited upfront. Kelechi Iheanacho has been out of favour under Rodgers, while Ayoze Perez hasn’t set the world alight since arriving at the King Power Stadium from Newcastle United in the summer.
So Rodgers could be tempted to try and beef up his options in the striking department. Vardy is the clear number one choice but backups are in short supply. That’s when Leicester must prioritise the signing of Serhou Guirassy in January.
Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Guirassy is strong, powerful and intimidating forward who is a real handful in the air. He is also aerially dominant and can hold the ball up well to bring his teammates into the game in the final third. The France-born star of Guinean descent can also make some penetrative runs behind the opposition backline.
The 23-year-old has an excellent sense of positioning, which allows him to be at the right place at the right time. Guirassy can outmuscle defenders in the box with his strength, whilst deceiving them with intelligent movement.
However, he is yet to prove his worth at the highest level, so there are some concerns over whether he would be able to deliver the goods in the English top-flight as he has done in France.
Guirassy will be a cost-effective option in Leicester’s bid to add competition and cover for the ageing Vardy. He will not only add more goals to Rodgers’ squad but could also help them achieve a top-four finish this season.
