Leicester beating Crystal Palace in this £11m race would be a top January move

Why Leicester City must go all out for Roberto Alvarado

As per Football Insider (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are one of the clubs interested in Cruz Azul’s Roberto Alvarado.

The Foxes might face tough competition for the signing of Alvarado as Crystal Palace, Lyon, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax have also kept tabs on the youngster’s progress, according to the report.

Alvarado, 21, who came from the ranks of Celaya’s youth system joined Cruz Azul in the summer of 2018. Having played in 18 Liga MX Apertura for his side this season, he has scored twice and got one assist.

He has been consistent throughout the campaign and has lit up the Mexican league with his stellar performances.

And he could be on his way out of Mexico amidst interest from several other European teams, with the report claiming he could be available for £11m this month.

Leicester, meanwhile, enjoyed an incredible start to the Premier League campaign but lost their way in between after successive losses against Liverpool and Manchester City. Despite that, they are sitting second in the table, one point ahead of the reigning champions.

They have heavily impressed under Brendan Rodgers, especially with attacking players like Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans linking up in the best possible way and guiding them to numerous victories.

However, James Maddison’s superb playmaking skills have been noticed across Europe and Daily Star claims that he is on the radar of Manchester United, who are willing to fork out a huge amount for the Englishman.

While Rodgers has expressed that none of his players will be leaving in January (h/t Leicestershire Live), he could go for the young Alvarado in January as a possible replacement for Maddison.

An attacking midfielder by nature, Alvarado has all the abilities to excel on either wing. His creativity for Cruz Azul at such a young age has been highly appreciable and he can work wonders from the middle of the park too.

The 21-year-old is a technically gifted player whose versatility is his remarkable trait. It’s quite tough to get the ball away from him and his playmaking abilities in an advanced role are already top-notch. He could bring all these qualities to Leicester City if a deal goes through.

The Mexico international has already played 18 games for his country and has some quality experience under his belt. Alvarado has all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League and under Rodgers’ watch, he can go on to become successful if he takes a step in the right direction.

Verdict

Although Alvarado might be very young, he is a player filled with huge potential. He may not be able to walk straight into the starting XI at Leicester City, but it would be wise for the Foxes to make a move for him this month.

His raw talent shows that he has what it takes to develop into a Premier League prospect and by shaping himself, he could become a regular at the King Power Stadium. With Crystal Palace also in the race, Rodgers must do everything possible to beat them to the signing of Roberto Alvarado.
