Leeds United making a move for this 26-year-old German would be an outstanding move by Bielsa – opinion

Leeds United opinion: Should the Whites make a move for Lukas Kübler?

Leeds United have had a splendid season so far. While things have gone off-track in recent weeks, they are still on course for automatic promotion. That being said, despite the struggles, the Whites still have a chance at pipping Norwich City to the title.

At the moment, they sit in third position and are five points behind the Canaries, with losses to QPR and Sheffield United playing a part there. Yet, despite all that, the club are on course to at least finish in the playoff spots.

However, if they do make it to England’s top-tier, then the club would have to make a few new additions. Their center-backs and goalkeepers look solid for now, but other positions need new additions.

A new central midfielder, a new winger, another striker and the most important one of all, a new right-back should make the shortlist. The right-back is the most important one, simply because at the moment, Leeds only have Luke Ayling at their disposal.

The 27-year-old has played most of the games, missing only eight games so far. As a result, manager Marcelo Bielsa has had to use Stuart Dallas and even Jamie Shackleton, but neither is a long term-option.

That is exactly why the Whites should target Bundesliga star Lukas Kübler in the summer to help ease Ayling’s burden. The 26-year-old is among Freiburg’s best players despite missing ten games through various injuries.

While this has affected the German full-back, Kübler still remains a brilliant option for Leeds United.

Not only is the 26-year-old a solid defender but while he isn’t the most athletic right-back in the world, Kübler makes up for it with impressive defensive nuance.

So far this season, the German has averaged 2.2 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 2.8 clearances and has only been dribbled past 0.6 times per 90 minutes. Given the number of appearances and the teams that Lukas Kübler has faced, these statistics emphasise why Leeds United need to make a move.

Furthermore, Kübler’s aggressive style of play does see him earn more than his fair share of yellow cards, and that’s exactly why he is perfect for the English game. It is high octane and a very physical style of play that doesn’t suit too many players in the world, but Lukas Kübler isn’t one of them.

Conclusion

Leeds United need reinforcements and that’s something which is clear. It doesn’t make for good reading when one looks at it but adding someone like Lukas Kübler will help them move forward.

Furthermore, it will help Luke Ayling take a break every once in a while, and maybe he’ll have a better chance of staying fit.
