Forget it Bielsa – Leeds must forget about signing this 20-year-old star at all costs

Why Leeds United should avoid signing Louis Appere in January

According to TEAMTalk (h/t The Pink Un), Leeds United are one of the clubs interested in Dundee United forward Louis Appere.

Louis Appere, 20, has caught the eye during a breakthrough season in the Scottish Championship, notching four goals and providing five assists in 22 appearances. The Perth-born youngster’s progress has interested the likes of Norwich City, Bournemouth, Celtic and Rangers as well. (h/t The Pink Un)

The 20-year-old signed a new deal in October keeping him at Tannadice until 2022, but Dundee would be willing to listen to offers in January. (h/t The Pink Un) That being said, should Leeds United make a move for Appere in January?

The Whites will be livid with themselves after throwing away a three-goal lead on Saturday. It was looking comfortable for Marcelo Bielsa’s side but Cardiff City managed to create a miraculous comeback that shocked Elland Road. And West Brom took advantage of Leeds’ dropping points to Cardiff by securing the top spot in the table after 22 games.

It seems as though Eddie Nketiah’s future come January is still far from certain one way or another. Earlier this month, the Daily Mail claimed that Arsenal are set to recall Nketiah from his loan spell at Leeds in January.

It has been difficult for the youngster at Elland Road, with the striker yet to start a league game for Leeds, despite scoring five goals in 15 appearances in all competitions.

As a result, there are chances of Nketiah returning to Arsenal during the winter transfer window and if that happens, Bielsa will be just left with Patrick Bamford as the only centre-forward in his ranks.

That being said, Bielsa should prioritise signing a striker as a potential replacement for Nketiah. But the Leeds tactician shouldn’t make a move for Louis Appere.

Appere has played his part in a breakthrough season at Dundee United, operating across a variety of attacking positions. He has contributed to nine goals in 13 Championship starts but as he isn’t prolific or established in a top-flight division, Leeds cannot afford to take a gamble on the forward.

Instead, the Whites should lookout for a player with decent experience and one that can make an immediate impact at Elland Road.

Appere may have potential, but he’s better off staying at Dundee United, getting regular first-team football and developing his talents more.

As far as Leeds are concerned, they must stay away from the Dundee starlet and look for other alternatives to potentially replace Nketiah.
