According to a report in Tuttomercatoweb, Leeds United are hoping to strike an ambitious swoop for Uruguay’s World Cup star Nahitan Nandez.
The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade for Boca Juniors, having joined them in the summer of 2017. Nandez’s contract will expire in 2020, hence, if an extension isn’t signed, he would enter the last 12 months of his deal at the Argentine club.
It is understood that Serie A clubs, including Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Cagliari, are interested in the player. The latter have already held talks to potentially bring the dynamic midfielder to Italy.
Nandez was a part of Uruguay’s World Cup team in Russia that went to the last-eight and was ousted by eventual champions France. Last summer, in Argentine radio channel Continental, it was mentioned that the midfielder has a release clause of £12m.
Here’s why Leeds United must do everything to sign the player in the upcoming summer:
Predominantly a central midfielder, Nahitan Nandez can operate as a defensive midfielder or as one of the wide midfielders. In terms of ability, he is good at passing the ball and can dribble past players in tight spaces to create an opening for the team.
Without the ball, the Uruguayan is a tenacious little player who loves to put a tackle or two in. He is also very good physically and that helps him to protect the ball better and also aids him to remain a commanding presence in the midfield despite not being blessed with great height.
All in all, the 23-year-old is a dynamic pocket rocket who would swiftly move around in the midfield and do his job without much fuss.
Leeds United could do with a player of his stature in their team. Marcelo Bielsa’s men have good ball-playing midfielders but at times, they struggle to control the match without the ball.
Nandez would help them in solidifying the most important area of the field and also bring more dynamism to the team.

Everything points towards a conclusion that Leeds must make a move for Nahitan Nandez in the summer. If the release clause is to be seen, it is not much for a player who can make a huge difference in the Whites’ midfield.
