Why Leeds should beat Manchester United to sign this versatile 17-year-old prodigy

Why Leeds should beat Manchester United to sign Erling Braut Haaland

Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Norwegian teenager and Leeds target Erling Braut Haaland. Haaland is the son of former Manchester City midfielder Alf-Inge Haaland. Mourinho had reportedly sent scouts to watch Molde’s 4-0 win over Brann on Sunday and it looks like the Portuguese manager is determined to sign him.

Leeds have also targeted the player ahead of the upcoming season under Marcelo Bielsa. Haaland can play either as a striker or as a No.10, depending on the given circumstances. He has the required tools to succeed in modern-day football.

A move to a high-level side should push him to perform better which in turn will enhance his reputation at such a young age.

If we look at this situation in hindsight, Leeds might be a better club for Haaland to join. At 17 years of age, he is unlikely to receive adequate game time in United’s first-team. To that end, Bielsa could offer him greater opportunities which will help him develop and progress further.

Let us scout the player and conclude as to why Leeds should beat United to sign Haaland.

Scouting Erling Braut Haaland

The striker is tall enough and his height allows him to dominate opponents aerially. He scored four goals in 21 minutes to help Molden secure a win over Brann, which shows his ruthlessness in front of the goal.

Haaland has already scored five goals in three appearances for the Norway U19 side. He demonstrates pace, directness and has a deadly left foot. At the age of 17, he needs time to improve his game but if that is ironed out, he could become a menacing weapon in the near future.

Verdict

Leeds United will benefit by having the striker at their disposal. At Manchester United, he would be just another young player fighting for a starting spot but at Leeds, he could achieve a lot more.

Until he becomes perfect, a manager like Mourinho wouldn’t provide him with high-risk opportunities. Hence, joining Leeds will allow him to improve and further enhance his playing career.
