Why Leeds Must Renew Their Interest In West Ham Forward Jordan Hugill

Championship strugglers Leeds United were credited with an interest in Jordan Hugill in the January transfer window, as per Daily Express. The move did not materialise and the player ended up joining Premier League outfit West Ham United instead.

However, a recent report from The Sun has claimed that the Hammers could send the youngster out on loan once the summer transfer window commences. Considering Leeds’ eagerness to sign him in the past, it makes sense for the club to re-ignite their interest in him.

Now, The Sun claim that West Ham will be looking to send him out on a loan deal and even if that were the case, Leeds should take it. Despite joining the club in January, Hugill has received just 28 minutes of first-team action so far.

For a 25-year-old like him, it is important to play regularly to develop further and due to the lack of game time, Hugill must look at options elsewhere. Taking into account the requirement at Leeds, there is no doubt that he will be a solid option for them.

Paul Heckingbottom’s men have been through a rollercoaster of sorts this season but it is clear that they are in dire need of a quality forward prior to the commencement of the new season.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s loan spell will get over this summer and it is unsure as to whether or not they will renew the deal. As far as the club’s other options are concerned, none of them has been convincing enough and a player like Hugill will undoubtedly be a major upgrade.

Jay-Roy Grot and Caleb Ekuban have enjoyed some great moments this season but they have been rather hit-and-miss when it comes to being consistent. On certain occasions, they look like matchwinners and at other times, they fail to make an impact whatsoever.

The same goes for Kemar Roofe as well and if Leeds are to redeem themselves next term, they will need a proven goalscorer in their ranks.

Hugill made quite a name for himself when he was playing for Preston North End. He was a revelation for the Championship outfit and he is experienced enough to make a difference as well. Although he has struggled at West Ham, Hugill could be the missing link for Leeds.

His activity and impact in the final third can unlock several doors for Heckingbottom’s squad, thus making him an ideal target. Thus, the Yorkshire-based outfit must definitely consider making a renewed attempt to sign him this summer.
