Why Leandro Paredes would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United
Argentine outlet El Intransigente (h/t Manchester Evening News) has reported that Manchester United are interested in signing Leandro Paredes. The report confirms that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to bolster his squad in the New Year and Paredes has been linked with United.
After United’s performance against Tottenham and Manchester City, the Daily Mail suggests that the Glazers family are behind the manager and are ready to back him up in the January transfer window to build on their success.
Paredes, 25, is considered to be a brilliant midfielder and became a star at Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia. His performances earned him a £36m move to Paris Saint-Germain in January this year. He was consistent in Thomas Tuchel’s squad until the summer.
After the arrival of Idrissa Gana Gueye in the summer, Paredes has fallen down the pecking order under Tuchel.
This season, United have lacked quality in the midfield. After the injuries to Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, Solskjaer was left with no competent players in his ranks. Despite Fred and Scott McTominay coming to the fore in recent times, it would be good if Solskjaer addresses the lack of depth in the midfield.
A player of Paredes’ quality can help United to build a strong midfield partnership along with the present youngsters in the squad. The Argentine has been effective playing a deep role. He has got all the qualities to excel at Man United.
Paredes can also play in an attacking position in the middle of the park. He is a midfield maestro who can create the play from the back and doesn’t shy away from making harsh successful tackles. His aggression in one-on-one situations is truly an asset to any team.
The 25-year-old is a tenacious presence on the pitch. According to Whoscored, in defensive situations, he has registered 1.6 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 0.4 clearances per game in Ligue 1.
These numbers show that he can really be an important member of United’s squad as a shield in front of their back four.
