Man Utd snapping up this 27-year-old international left-back specialist on a cut-price deal would be a marvellous coup

Why Layvin Kurzawa would be a smart signing for Manchester United

Back in June, a report from the Manchester Evening News had claimed Manchester United were interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Layvin Kurzawa.

However, the left-back was reluctant to leave Paris Saint-Germain in summer as he wanted to prove his fitness to manager Thomas Tuchel and earn his place back in the team.

Layvin Kurzawa, 27, had an injury-hit 2018/19 campaign with PSG that saw him manage just 21 games across all competitions. However, he has managed just five Ligue 1 appearances so far this season and has entered the final year of his contract.

The French champions could be tempted to cash in on the flying left-back in January and with that in mind, Manchester United must do everything possible to sign Layvin Kurzawa.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that the club will be looking to sign a new striker in the January transfer window.

Following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, Solskjaer decided to stick with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, whilst promoting academy star Mason Greenwood this season.

But that plan hasn’t worked at all, with the Red Devils struggling to score goals and win games at the games. While signing a centre-forward in January is an absolute must, the United boss should also look to address his team’s left-back woes.

Luke Shaw, who was one of United’s rare consistent performers last season, has been out injured since the third game of the campaign. In Shaw’s absence, Solskjaer has been forced to use Ashley Young at left-back.

Young is 34 and isn’t capable of competing at the highest level anymore. Even if Solskjaer promoted academy kid Brandon Williams, United need a new left-back due to Shaw’s recurrent injury problems.

Layvin Kurzawa would fit the bill perfectly at Old Trafford. He previously shone at Monaco and developed himself as one of Europe’s finest attacking left-backs, but his time at PSG has not gone according to the plan, even though he has managed to win a lot of trophies at Parc des Princes.

The France international is an attacking left-back, renowned for his pace, crossing traits and ability to go forward and create opportunities for his teammates.

No way can he be considered a slouch defensively, as Kurzawa can make tackles and vital interceptions for the team. The 27-year-old is proven at the highest level, has bags of European experience and has the qualities to flourish in the Premier League.

All in all, the ex-Monaco man could be a useful addition to United’s defensive ranks, whilst covering and competing with Shaw in the Premier League.

Verdict

Thus, the Red Devils must aim to bag a bargain deal for Kurzawa during the winter transfer window.
