Why Jose Mourinho And His Former Striker At Chelsea Could Be Lethal For Manchester United

Jose Mourinho moving to Manchester United seems to be a sure shot deal come the end of this season, even if Louis van Gaal does take the side into the top four and even wins the FA Cup with the Red Devils.

The former Chelsea manager hasn’t been working since he got sacked, for the second time by Chelsea this season and well had a pretty poor season up to the point of losing his job and Chelsea were in a bit of a soup. The latest news coming in terms of signing new players for Manchester United is that of the Spanish striker Diego Costa, yes the same one who apparently had a hand in the poor showing for Mourinho this season.

Clearly the Portuguese manager trusts the burly striker a lot and under Guus Hiddink, the Spaniard has found his goal scoring ability but is he the right man for the job of scoring goals for Manchester United.

A hothead at United?

Manchester United certainly have a lot of youngsters who can take up the mantle of scoring goals in the future. Anthony Martial and the upcoming star Marcus Rashford certainly have shown that on their day, they can be lethal in front of goal but they aren’t the most physical players out there.

Wayne Rooney was that player but the Manchester United captain has endured a frustrating season thus far with only 32 appearances all season and hasn’t really hit a purple patch in the league campaign with just seven goals in 22 games.

Diego Costa, even with his rather poor season during the first half has scored 11 goals in 22 games in the league, not a bad record to have, and he has looked the old Diego Costa who was banging goals in for fun under Guus Hiddink.

On his day, the Spanish striker is probably one of the best in the world and the edge he brings to the game is certainly something that Manchester United could use next season. One of the things that has been void of this United side under Louis van Gaal is the passion, grit and commitment in tough games and Costa brings that and much more to the table.

He famously stated that he was going to battle and wanted the Chelsea fans to support him when he goes on to the pitch and that is something which often leads him to go overboard with his antics. The 27-year-old certainly has had many run-ins with various defenders in the league and that has led to various bans and red cards.

Manchester United might need someone passionate in front of goal but they also need someone who can create goals out of nothing. Diego Costa might be the one who finishes a slick move but he certainly won’t play a part in most of those.

He does have a lot of strength and sometimes his vision for a pass isn’t the worst either, plus he is willing to get stuck into a challenge as well. He might not be the best striker in the world but if he does play with the pace of Anthony Martial, this could be a lethal partnership, if Costa plays like the Costa of the old and not the Costa of the first half of this season.

Manchester United have the money to sign any player in the world and it would be wise to listen to Mourinho when it comes to buying players, he does have a great record of transfers and bringing in someone who has done well under him could well be the first step into taking Manchester United back to the top of the league.
