Norwich signing this 6ft 2in Championship star would be the trump card to survival

Why Joe Worrall would be a smart signing for Norwich City

According to the Daily Mirror (h/t The Pink Un), Norwich City are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall.

Joe Worrall, 22, has made an impressive start to the season for Forest in the Championship under Sabri Lamouchi. He has been a permanent fixture in Nottingham Forest’s defence this term, making 25 league appearances so far.

The former England Under-21 international has become a man in demand after his solid performances this season, with West Ham and Sheffield United also keen on him, the report (h/t The Pink Un) adds. Nevertheless, Norwich City must do everything possible to sign Worrall this month.

The Canaries have struggled following their return to the top-flight this season. They are lacking direction, with Daniel Farke’s defence being the Achilles heel. Norwich are rock bottom of the table with no team conceding more than their 41 goals so far.

With leaders like Ben Godfrey and Timm Klose out injured, Farke has had to go with a makeshift defence consisting of on-loan Ibrahim Amadou and Alex Tettey.

Grant Hanley and Christoph Zimmermann haven’t been consistent at all at the back, meaning defensive reinforcements are very much the need of the hour for the Canaries.

Joe Worrall could make an instant impact at Carrow Road. The 22-year-old joined the Reds as a youngster in 2011 and rose up through the youth ranks with them.

He spent last season on loan in Scotland with Rangers, making 32 appearances, having also had a loan spell at Dagenham and Redbridge when he was younger.

The English defender has proved to be a talismanic figure for a Forest side who are dreaming of a return to the Premier League. As per WhoScored, Worrall has averaged 0.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 5.4 clearances and 1.3 blocks in the Championship.

Standing at around 6ft 2in tall and with a pass completion rate of 81.1%, the 22-year-old would be a fantastic fit for Farke’s Norwich side.

Although Worrall has no past Premier League experience, Norwich may find it beneficial to take a gamble on him.

With the likes of Hanley and Zimmermann struggling for consistency in the top-flight, the arrival of Worrall could force them to step up their performance levels for the Canaries.

Verdict

Worrall has proven himself in the Championship this term and would be a smart signing for Norwich. Not only is he a good defender but he is also capable on the ball and would suit the way Farke plays.

So the former England Under-21 international is the sort of signing Norwich should be looking to make and is exactly what they need to avoid relegation.
