Why Jarrod Bowen would be a perfect fit for Newcastle United

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are interested in signing Hull City star Jarrod Bowen in January.

Jarrod Bowen, 22, had a fantastic 2018/19 Championship campaign that saw him score 22 goals and provide four assists in 46 appearances. During the 2017-18 campaign, the forward made 37 starts and five substitute appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing one assist in the process.

The speedy wide-man is a very good player who has been a star in the Championship, and the 22-year-old certainly has the potential to make the step-up to the Premier League. He has scored four goals and provided two assists in 11 Championship appearances for Hull so far this season.

With Jarrod Bowen impressing over the last two seasons in Championship football, Newcastle United must go all out to land him at St. James’ Park during the mid-season trading period.

Newcastle haven’t had an ideal start to the new Premier League campaign but they went into the international break all smiles by defeating Manchester United 1-0 at St. James’ Park.

Matty Longstaff was handed a surprise start by manager Steve Bruce on Sunday and the teenager rewarded his faith with a low, driven strike past David De Gea to seal a 1-0 win.

The Magpies lack quality in different areas of the pitch and manager Steve Bruce needs to bring in reinforcements for the club to avoid relegation. Despite spending top dollar on Joelinton, Newcastle continue to struggle in front of goal.

A lack of creativity has also been a big problem, with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Christian Atsu failing to provide the cutting edge in the final third.

That’s why signing Jarrod Bowen would make sense for the Magpies. Bowen fits the bill and he would definitely be a tailor-made fit for Bruce’s philosophy with his pace, skill-set, clinical finishing, trickery, intelligent movement and well-rounded technical abilities.

He is predominantly a right-winger but can also play on the left or through the middle as a secondary striker.

The 22-year-old offers a lot with his work rate on and off the ball and could provide the creative spark missing currently in the Magpies attack.

Having previously worked with him at Hull, Bruce knows the wide man’s strengths and weaknesses, so adapting to the Newcastle boss’ philosophy won’t be much of a problem for him.

Verdict

Bowen is still very much in the developmental phase of his career and at 22, the time might just be right for him to complete a move to the Premier League. All in all, he would be a valuable asset for Newcastle over the years.
