Why Jadon Sancho would be a blockbuster signing for Chelsea
According to the Sun, Chelsea are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund’s £120million rated star Jadon Sancho this month. The Londoners are working on a deal which could see them splash out a club-record fee on one of the world’s brightest young talents.
Jadon Sancho, 19, has taken German football by storm since his move from Manchester City back in 2017, scoring 12 goals and was responsible for 14 assists for Dortmund as he was voted into the Bundesliga Team of the Season last year.
And the England international has continued his electric form this campaign, with nine goals and nine assists already so far. The report adds Manchester United are also keen on securing Sancho’s services as they believe he could help fire the club back to the top of European football.
The January transfer window presents an option to every club to repair and add reinforcements to their squad. While Chelsea were under a two-window transfer ban with their ban shortened, they are now eligible to buy new players in the winter window.
One of the most important things the Blues boss Frank Lampard must do is fill the void left by Eden Hazard’s departure for Real Madrid. Hazard was Chelsea’s talisman for a number of years and his exit has hampered the Londoners’ creativity. Lampard’s side need more quality and competition in the creative areas of the pitch if they are to finish in the top four this term.
In that regard, Jadon Sancho would be an excellent fit at Stamford Bridge. Since moving to Dortmund from City in 2017, the youngster has made huge strides and is now regarded as one of the best prospects in European football.
He has been ripping defences apart with his magical feet over the last couple of seasons and it’s no surprise that one of Premier League’s top clubs are after this talent.
Sancho already has a relationship with all of Chelsea’s young English players, while the time he spent with Christian Pulisic at Dortmund would also be a massive boost. When paired with Pulisic, the pace, trickery and flair the duo would bring into the team would be incredible for the Blues.

The English teenager would fit perfectly into the role on the right and also provide the likes of Willian, Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi with some much-needed competition.
At this stage of his career, Sancho would potentially benefit from a move to Chelsea, as he’s proven himself capable of shining in the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League and on the international stage too. Hence, Chelsea must not hesitate to spend a big amount to sign the England international.
