Forget it Pep – Why Man City signing this English speedster would be a total waste of resources

Why Jadon Sancho to Man City would be unnecessary

According to SportBild (h/t Daily Express), Premier League outfit Manchester City are in fierce competition with rivals Manchester United to grab Borrusia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

The former City academy player, who left England in search of greener pastures, now has 18 goals and 30 assists from 69 appearances for the German side.

Sancho, who is still in his teens, would be a valuable asset for any team and will not come cheap, as per the Sun.

In fact, the report goes on to claim that he would cost around £100million and despite that, City manager Pep Guardiola remains keen on bringing back the 19-year-old.

There is no denying his potential and talent. The London-born star already has three goals and five assists from seven matches this season.

Sancho is a winger who can play on both flanks. However, it does not seem logical for the Cityzens to pursue a move for the red-hot starlet as there is no dearth in attacking options at City.

Attackers galore

City are not exactly in a bright spot like last year, where they won the Premier League title. They are now second on the table, with 25 points.

It is too early to jump to conclusions about the title race as the Sky Blues have already racked up 34 goals in 11 games – nine more than leaders Liverpool (25).

City have also registered an average of 21.4 shots per game in the Premier League, which is a remarkable figure for any side.

World-class players

Football has never been an individual’s game, even though there are moments of exception where an individual rises above the rest.

In fact, Aguero’s last-gasp winner over Queens Park Rangers in 2012 was one such moment of sheer individual brilliance. City have continued that trend, only in a different manner. They are a more cohesive unit that functions in a certain manner.

All credits to Guardiola for bringing in a different approach to English football and Raheem Sterling has been the one to benefit.

In addition, they also have the likes of Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez in the fray.

They all play exactly where Sancho plays – on the flanks. At present, they are in an all-attack mode, as their displays on the field suggest.

Sterling has amassed seven goals and one assist thus far, while Silva has been equally destructive, with four goals and two assists.

Mahrez, who was sidelined for a majority of last season, has started putting up some quality displays. With as many as three brilliant attackers in their ranks, City should save some money and bolster their defence rather than sharpening an already potent attack.

All that said and done, signing Sancho would be just be added baggage. At present, City boast of a crop of world-class attackers in their squad. Hence, Sancho to City is a really unnecessary move.
