Liverpool signing this £15m-rated Bundesliga sensation would be a smart piece of business by Klopp

Why Jacob Bruun Larsen could be a smart signing for Liverpool

Back in June, Sun had claimed that Liverpool were one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing £15m-rated Borussia Dortmund attacker Jacob Bruun Larsen.

The Danish forward, 21, enjoyed a breakthrough season for Borussia Dortmund in 2018/19, scoring three goals and assisting as many times in 30 appearances.

He was snapped up by Dortmund at the age of 16 from Lyngby in 2015 when Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was at the helm of the Bundesliga club.

Jacob Bruun Larsen has played three Bundesliga games so far this season, assisting once. He continues to find himself behind the likes of Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard, Jadon Sancho and Julian Brandt in the pecking order under Lucien Favre.

Liverpool, meanwhile, didn’t make any marquee signing in the summer following a season in which they won the Champions League and finished second in the Premier League. The Reds shouldn’t stand still this season, with important challenges ahead.

The target could be to win the English Premier League and while Jurgen Klopp didn’t make any high-profile signing during the summer window, a couple of additions would freshen up the squad in January.

Liverpool arguably have the best attack in Europe, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino forging a fantastic understanding between them. However, it’s unrealistic to expect the front-three to stay fit throughout the season, and Klopp needs options off the bench.

That’s why Liverpool should rekindle their interest in Jacob Bruun Larsen during the winter transfer window. Klopp maintains strong contacts with his former club Dortmund, potentially giving the Reds an advantage.

Larsen plays on the left-wing, where Mane has been in imperious form in the last couple of seasons. So there’s little scope for Larsen to be the first choice at Anfield. But taking up a role as the Senegalese speedster’s understudy is feasible as the young Dane has a prolific record at youth level, which suggests that he might be able to deliver the goods eventually.

Still just 21, Larsen has the entire career ahead of him and learning the tricks of the trade from wide players like Salah and Mane would only bode well in his development.

Liverpool need freshness in their attack and a talented player like Larsen would be a huge boost to their squad depth and would help them achieve their target this season.
