Enough is enough – Man Utd must move on from this 31-year-old flop at the earliest

Why it would be good for Nemanja Matic to leave Manchester United

A report from The Metro suggests that Nemanja Matic is likely to move away from Manchester United, with both the club and the player open to an exit in the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old has been involved in just two Premier League matches for the Red Devils this season. He has dropped down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mainly due to Scott McTominay’s stellar performances.

The Serb has played less regularly this season and could be left out from the Serbian national team for the Euro 2020 campaign. His position will be at stake if he doesn’t find regular playing time.

Matic’s contract with United will end next summer. And the club must allow him to leave while looking for a replacement.

Matic was signed from Chelsea to control the midfield. Since his move from the Blues in 2017, the midfielder has played only 92 games for United in the league. During this time, he has scored three times and provided the same number of assists.

At United, Solskjaer has placed his faith on the youth, thus leaving Matic on the bench. With the likes of McTominay, Fred, Andreas Pereira, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata, chances look bleak for Matic.

Now, according to The Sun (h/t Daily Mail), it is believed that Inter Milan could save him from a decline in his career.

Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is desperately in need of a midfielder and he could reunite with Matic at San Siro The Sun (h/t Daily Mail). Matic played under the former Chelsea boss for one season, which saw them lift the Premier League title that year.

At Chelsea, he bossed the midfield and was a regular starter. During Jose Mourinho’s time at Chelsea, the tall Serbian played as a holding midfielder. His presence was the embodiment of Mourinho’s defensive style of play.

Matic was deployed mainly in front of the defence line and his role was to defend the opponent’s string of attacks.

Unfortunately, due to his injury and lack of performances, Matic is now an outcast at Old Trafford.

Conclusion

Matic must push for his exit from Manchester in the coming transfer window in order to play regularly. With Inter Milan fancying the chances to sign him, Matic should grab the opportunity to ply his trade with the Italian outfit.
