Why Guardiola Must Conclude Contract Talks For This £100,000 per week Midfielder And Lock Him Down At The Club

Manchester City Need To Extend Fernandinho’s Contract At All Costs And This Is Why

Manchester City are currently flying high and Fernandinho continues to be a major reason behind their success this term. Reports have emerged which suggest that he is ready to put an end to the speculation regarding his future by signing a new one-year deal with the club. The Brazilian is currently earning £100,000 per week.

The 32-year-old only has a year left on his current contract at the Etihad, and considering his brilliant performances so far, there is no reason as to why City shouldn’t extend his contract. The deal will most certainly delight City boss Pep Guardiola, who has made his admiration for the midfielder quite well known.

In fact, one cannot blame him since Fernandinho seems to have achieved a new level of form with his positivity and mentality. He joined City from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk back in June 2013 and won the league title in his first season at the club. However, his confidence took a major dip following Brazil’s humiliating exit from the 2014 World Cup, when they were beaten 7-1 by Germany.

After enduring a slump in form, the former Atletico Paranaense player is back to his very best this season. In fact, his impact has been noticed not only by Guardiola but also by fans and critics. Whenever City take the field, the €18m rated Fernandinho puts up a performance which makes it quite evident that he is the glue that holds together the team’s attacking array of talent, while also offering crucial defensive reassurance.

We all got to see a stunning glimpse of what he can do when the dynamic midfielder helped orchestrate a 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Fernandinho has been consistent and has not really given any room for the fans to have any sort of complaints. He can tackle, pass, play in a vast number of positions and yet, he has always been one of City’s most underrated players.

While the likes of David Silva and Sergio Aguero are often regarded as City’s legends, Fernandinho’s name rarely ever features on that list. Yet, the player is quite loyal and committed to Manchester City. For much of last season, Fernandinho played as a full-back with no complaints even though that is not his natural position and it looks like he will be rewarded soon for the same.

Fernandino is closing in on 200 appearances since moving to City from Ukraine, and if he continues at the club, it will be interesting to see if he achieves the status of a modern-day legend under Guardiola.
