Wolves reviving interest in signing this speedy 22-year-old winger would help find Nuno a solid fit for the attack

Why Goncalo Guedes would be a good fit at Nuno’s Wolves

Back in August 2018, a report from the Birmingham Mail had claimed that Wolves were interested in signing Goncalo Guedes, who was then playing for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Portuguese international, 22, spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Valencia, where he impressed by scoring six goals in 38 games. That saw Valencia sign him permanently from Paris Saint-Germain last year and thus, a move to Wolves didn’t materialise.

The speedy winger endured an injury-hit last season, yet managing five goals and three assists in 25 La Liga games as Valencia qualified for the Champions League.

As Los Che are competing in the Champions League, it’ll be difficult to lure Goncalo Guedes away to Molineux. Still, they must give it a shot when the winter transfer window starts.

Wolves were outstanding last season; Nuno Espirito Santo’s side surprised many onlookers with their performances in the Premier League. They safely negotiated the Europa qualifying rounds and now find themselves in the main tournament.

However, following an impressive year, the pressure and expectations around the club are high and going by the Wanderers’ performances in the opening weeks of the new season, they have looked flat and weary.

That should be a worry for Nuno, who only managed to bring in a few reinforcements over the summer.

It is clear and obvious that Wolves need more quality and depth to their squad if they are to balance the Premier League and Europa League. That being said, the Portuguese tactician should target an attacker to solve his team’s goalscoring problems.

Goncalo Guedes would be a good fit at Molineux. He is represented by Jorge Mendes, the super-agent with close ties to Wolves. A number of Mendes’ Portuguese clients have already made move to Wolves since Fosun bought the club in 2016.

More Wolves News

Wolves generally don’t play with natural wingers but Guedes’ ability to play through the middle could see him thrive under Nuno.

The Portuguese international could terrorise defences with his pace, skill and dribbling ability, whilst sending the Molineux faithful crazy. The former Benfica wonder kid is also a composed finisher in front of goal and would add a different dimension to Nuno’s attack.

Verdict

As aforementioned, Guedes is another one of Mendes’ clients. It’s safe to say that a number of his clients have already developed into stars at Wolves, so why not take a gamble on the 22-year-old, who certainly can unlock his true potential under the watchful eyes of Nuno.
