Why Forest have done a good job by handing Alex Mighten a new deal

According to Nottingham Forest’s official website, teenage winger Alex Mighten has signed his first professional contract with the club until 2022.

Alex Mighten, 17, who has been at Nottingham Forest since he was eight-years-old, made his first-team debut earlier this season against Arsenal in the EFL Cup in September, coming on for the final 10 minutes of the game.

He has been a standout figure for the club’s Under-18s in recent seasons, while also being a key player for the Under-23s.

The left-footed right-winger has also impressed on the international stage with England, representing the Three Lions at Under-17s and Under-18s level, scoring a hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Australia earlier this season.

Nottingham Forest were one of the standout teams at the start of the 2019/20 Championship season after going 11 games unbeaten from August to October, following the loss to West Brom on the opening day of the season. Their form has faded lately, unfortunately.

Sabri Lamouchi has done an excellent job since taking the reins of the club this past summer, making Forest play an attractive and expansive brand of football.

He has also handed opportunities to a lot of young talents in his side this season, with Joe Worrall impressing the most with a series of consistent displays. Ryan Yates, another young player, has also been given minutes under Lamouchi this season, demonstrating the manager’s faith towards young talents.

A lot of young players are getting opportunities this season and it is not surprising to see that Alex Mighten has also been in the mix. In fact, he has become the fourth Forest player to sign a new contract in the last few weeks, following Matty Cash, Ryan Yates and Tyrese Fornah.

Regardless of what happens in the upcoming transfer windows, the teenage winger is capable of getting more opportunities if he continues to put in the hard yards.

Verdict

Forest’s decision to offer Mighten a new deal is definitely a step in the right direction and one that highlights the club’s renewed trust in their academy prospects.
