12 goals, 6 assists – Tottenham signing this 23-year-old Brazilian would provide the creativity they need

Why Everton Soares to Tottenham would be a smart move

According to a report from Sky Sports, Tottenham sent scouts to watch Everton Soares in action during Gremio’s Copa Libertadores semi-final first-leg against Flamengo. And the Brazilian international created his side’s goal in an impressive display, as a 1-1 draw set up an exciting second leg on Thursday.

Everton Soares, 23, made his name in the recent Copa America where he was the joint-top scorer and the revelation of the tournament. He started the competition as an option on the bench but ended it as a star member of Brazil’s winning team.

Spurs have endured a difficult start to the season, meaning Mauricio Pochettino may well be in the market for new additions come January.

Tottenham are still in the market for attacking players having tried to sign Paulo Dybala in the summer. Uncertainty also remains about how long Christian Eriksen will stay at the club with the Dane’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

Eriksen has been one of the most crucial players for Spurs over the last few years and his potential departure, either in the New Year or summer 2020, would leave a huge void in Pochettino’s squad.

As of now, the under-pressure Spurs manager, however, has refused to disclose whether the club would delve into the January transfer market to solve any of their problems.

Regardless of Eriksen’s situation at the club, Pochettino should look to recruit Everton Soares when the transfer window reopens in a few months’ time.

Everton, who is a left-winger by trade but can also play on the right or through the middle, has hit 12 goals and six assists this season. He racked up 16 goals in all competitions last year. Thus, it is no surprise to see him attract interest from Europe since last year.

Exceptionally gifted and tactically versatile, the Brazilian would add a level of potency to Spurs’ attack, and his ability to make intelligent runs in behind opposing defenders would provide them with a totally different dimension to their play in the final third.

The Gremio forward is pacey, skilful and deceptive in the final third, capable of scoring goals from both feet.

More Tottenham News

Tottenham have an array of attacking talents in their squad but they lack a back-up striker for Harry Kane, who has been unfortunate with injuries over the last two seasons.

Kane desperately needs cover if he’s to sustain an entire season and Everton would be the ideal player to provide that, along with competition up front.

Verdict

If Pochettino manages to bring Everton to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in January, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance and one that bolsters the Lilywhites’ hopes of making it to the top four.
