According to Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are interested in Brazilian forward Everton Soares.
The 23-year old’s recent displays for Gremio in the Brazilian top-division had caught the attention of the Toffees, who are currently stuck in the rough, having managed just 4 wins from 14 league games this season.
Everton, who mainly plays as a left-winger for the Brazilian outfit has scored 11 times so far, and has provided 5 assists from 28 league games.
This year alone, he has racked up a total of 15 goals from 40 games across all competitions for the Porto Alegre-based outfit.
The Brazilian attacker, meanwhile, has also impressed for his national side, having won the Copa America title earlier this year. To date, he has three goals and has featured in 14 games for the Selecao.
Predominantly a forward, Everton’s versatility has often seen him being deployed in a number of positions, including the wings, and at times even as a second striker.
Meanwhile, it already looks like a season to forget for Marco Silva’s Everton as they suffer at the bottom of the Premier League table in 17th place.
They are now just two points adrift of the relegation zone and seem to be completely lost at sea.
With the Merseyside club scoring just 14 league goals till now, it is quite evident that their problems lie in the attack.
For Everton, except for strikers Richarlison (4 goals) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (3 goals), the rest have failed to deliver.
With its attacking incapability’s clearly at the forefront, it does not come off as a surprise that the Toffees are interested in making a move for Everton.
The youngster’s stature as a footballer rose recently after he grabbed the headlines, emerging Brazil’s top-scorer in the recently concluded Copa America.
Meanwhile, for the Toffees, Alex Iwobi and teenager Moise Kean were the two recent inclusions to the attack this summer. The two were bought with an expectation to add more intent into their attack.
However, the two youngsters have not yet been able to deliver what was expected of them.
Iwobi has scored just one goal since coming to Goodison Park, while 19-year old Kean has found English conditions too demanding and has not yet opened his account.
With Everton’s attackers in clear disarray and their inability to find a consistent goal-scorer upfront, the Toffees are in dire need of an attacker who could once again get them back among the scoresheet.
Also, considering Everton’s good form in recent times, the Toffees need someone of his capabilities to turn the tides in their favour.
An excellent dribbler with a keen eye for goal, Everton’s inclusion would do wonders for a club, which at the moment, is struggling for goals up front. Although he is only 23, Everton has played over 170 matches for Gremio and is nothing short of an experienced striker.
Moreover, Everton’s potential move to Goodison Park will offer manager Silva more options to choose in the attack.
