Everton sealing a €28m deal for this hotshot Spaniard would be a positive step towards European ambitions

Everton opinion: Should Silva go all out for Borja Iglesias?

According to a report from Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Everton are plotting a summer move for RCD Espanyol’s forward Borja Iglesias. The 26-year-old will be available for €28million in the summer due to a clause in his contract and the Toffees along with Valencia are keen on the Spaniard.

The Toffees have massively struggled with their strikers this season with Dominic Calvert Lewin and Cenk Tosun contributing to just 8 goals in the Premier League all season. Due to this, Marco Silva has been forced to play summer recruit Richarlison in the number 9 role.

The lack of goals from their strikers has left Everton with a mountain to climb with regards to European qualification for next season, with Wolves in pole position for the 7th spot.

The Toffees desperately need to address their attacking woes in the summer and Borja Iglesias could be the perfect solution.

Iglesias has been fantastic in front of goal for the Periquitos so far this season and has scored 14 goals across two competitions. The forward has had a massive impact on Espanyol’s season, having scored over 36% of his side’s goals this season.

The 26-year-old is a massive threat with his back to the goals and would suit the Premier League perfectly, thanks to his strength and his 6ft 2in frame.

Iglesias possesses the incredible ability to hold up the ball while he waits for his teammates to make runs. He is also capable of turning around and charging towards the goal on his own.

The former Celta Vigo man possesses a stunning right foot and his ability to have a pop at goal from distance with very little back-lift often makes things difficult for the goalkeeper.

Iglesias is also very intelligent with his movement and his decoy runs bring a defender with him, which opens up a lot of space for his teammates.

The Spaniard is a fantastic penalty taker and would be of massive use for the Toffees, who have missed 5 of their 10 spot-kicks so far this season. Iglesias averages 2.6 shots at goal per game, 1.2 key passes per game and also 1.6 successful aerial duels won per 90 minutes so far in the La Liga this season.

Conclusion

Everton will have to invest in a striker in the summer if they are to have any chance of achieving their European ambitions next season. Borja Iglesias at just €28million would be an absolute steal and the Toffees should go all out to beat Valencia for the forward’s signature.
