Everton’s midfield would become rock solid if they sign this Bundesliga star in the summer – opinion

Everton opinion: Should Silva make a move for Diego Demme?

Everton have struggled this season. For a club of their stature, history and ability to lure players in, the Toffees sit at 11th place at the moment, a massive six points behind a Europa League spot.

Things could get worse, especially given the fact that the club still has to play some of the top six sides before the season ends.

That will prove to potentially end their season but not if Everton play the way they did against Chelsea. The game finished 2-0 in favour of the Toffees it showed exactly why the Toffees brought in Marco Silva. Not only did the former Watford boss pull of a brilliant tactical move but he frustrated the Blues.

But next summer will prove to be an even bigger task and Silva has a few areas to address. However, even more so, if the club cannot convince Andre Gomes to stay, they need a regista to replace the Barcelona man.

Gomes’ performances since joining Everton on loan have been absolutely brilliant, with the former Valencia man enduring a renaissance after his struggle with Barcelona. To make things worse, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, the 26-year-old has revealed that he hasn’t made a decision on his future.

Replacing him will be the hardest thing and it’s going to be a tough job. But one man they must consider for the job is Bundesliga star Diego Demme. The 27-year-old has been RB Leipzig’s rock in the midfield, putting in his fair share of hard yards.

Like Gomes, Demme controls and dictates the tempo for Leipzig, quickly adapting to any situation. That’s what the Toffees need more than anything and with Idrissa Gueye’s future also in the air (Sky Sports), Demme can step into his role as well if required.

The former Aston Villa man has been crucial to any success that the club has seen so far since his arrival and losing him will be a big blow. But Demme’s ability to be both a destroyer and an offensive maestro makes him perfect to fill that role.

Conclusion

Diego Demme is argubably the perfect man to anchor Everton’s midfield. His rise has been incredible, and at the age of 27, he’s in the middle of his prime.

For Everton, it’s a move they have to make especially if they are to have any chance of playing European football next season.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
