Everton must try and do everything in their powers to hold onto their loan star until summer and here’s why

Why Everton must keep hold of Djibril Sidibe amidst AC Milan interest

Djibril Sidibe isn’t making a strong impact after agreeing to move to Everton on loan for this season. His future at Everton is under scrutiny, with AC Milan having identified the right-footed flyer as a potential reinforcement to their defensive ranks.

Everton were in dire need of a right-back to provide competition and cover for captain Seamus Coleman this season after allowing Jonjoe Kenny to join Schalke on a season-long loan.

In came Djibril Sidibe on a season-long loan from AS Monaco, looking to resurrect his career with the hopes of being included in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for Euro 2020.

However, the French right-back has played just 31 minutes of Premier League football so far. If it wasn’t for Seamus Coleman’s red card in the 1-0 defeat to Burnley before the international break, the 27-year-old might still be awaiting his first-ever appearance in the English top-flight.

AS Monaco can re-call Sidibe in January and they might be tempted to do just that if AC Milan show a desire to sign the right-back or bring him on loan until the end of the season with the promise of using him regularly. But Marco Silva should do everything possible to keep hold of the Frenchman and start giving him regular game time.

Sidibe made his Everton debut in the 4-2 Carabao Cup victory over Lincoln City back in August. He started at right-back and played the full game as he tried to show Silva what he can offer instead of regular-choice Seamus Coleman. He completed a decent game as the Toffees won the tricky fixture.

The Frenchman has played second fiddle to Coleman at Everton since joining but could get his chance now.

Coleman’s form hasn’t been great this season and he got himself sent off after picking up bookings in each half against Burnley. That will see him miss Everton’s game against West Ham after the international break.

Sidibe must look to take advantage of Coleman’s absence against West Ham and become a regular fixture for the Merseyside club. He made his Premier League bow at Turf Moor following Coleman’s dismissal and showed glimpses of what he can offer to Silva’s side.

Verdict

Without Kenny out on loan, Silva must keep hold of Sidibe without any second thoughts.

The Frenchman has played the bulk of football in cup competitions and is raring to start in the Premier League. However, the pressure is now on the right-back to impress in the Premier League, if his loan at Everton is to last beyond January.
