Everton would be foolish to allow this on-loan Englishman to depart the club permanently – Agreed?

Why Everton cannot allow Jonjoe Kenny to depart permanently

Everton youngster Jonjoe Kenny joined Schalke on loan till the end of the season and has impressed under David Wagner.

The English right-back scored a brilliant goal in Schalke’s 3-0 win over Hertha Berlin before the international break.

Jonjoe Kenny

The 22-year-old was asked about his future and the potential of staying at the Bundesliga giants, however, he told Bundesliga.com (h/t Liverpool Echo) that he wasn’t looking too much in the future:

“It’s still too early for that decision. I don’t want to live in the future. Whatever happens, happens. Now I’m definitely giving everything for Schalke.”

The Englishman has the right idea in mind as performing well for Schalke could reopen the door for him at Everton, and the Toffees need to recall the youngster once the season is done.

Everton need a right-back next season

It was a surprise seeing Everton sign Djibril Sidibe to provide competition to Seamus Coleman in the summer, however, Kenny is the one who needs to be looked into next season.

The 30-year-old Coleman is nearing the end of his time at the Blues and they need to find his replacement soon.

Kenny playing regular first-team football at Schalke will only help in his development, and Wagner has Premier League experience which should help the Englishman.

Sidibe would be a top-quality cover for Coleman and it will be interesting to see how things develop with the summer signing.

Kenny has been about the Everton first-team for a while and got minutes in the 2015-16 season but hasn’t been able to break into the team, despite getting a great chance a couple of years ago.

The youngster did play 19 games in the Premier League during the 17-18 season but wasn’t able to cement his place.

However, experience builds character and maybe the Englishman was a little too young to kick on after the chances he received at Goodison.

Verdict

This season is huge for Kenny and he seems set to impress in Germany. Everton need to plan for life after Coleman, and the 22-year-old is the right man for the job.
