Newcastle raiding PL rivals to sign 4-goal powerhouse would be a shrewd move

Why Dwight McNeil could be a brilliant signing for Newcastle United

Back in July, The Sun (h/t LancsLive) had claimed that Newcastle United were eyeing a move for Burnley’s Dwight McNeil. However, a deal didn’t go through and he stayed put at Turf Moor.

Since moving from Manchester United academy, McNeil, 20, has been a regular performer under Sean Dyche. In his 45 appearances for the Clarets, he has scored four and further assisted 9 in all competitions.

McNeil was also impressive for England in Toulon Tournament, where he scored a goal and set up tow more, thus adding to his growing reputation.

Despite Burnley’s dull season, McNeil has been doing his duties in the best possible way and has been of immense help for the team on the left side of the field. Newcastle must take note of his qualities and consider reigniting their interest in the winger when January arrives.

Steve Bruce has seen his men becoming prone to injuries at a rapid rate over the past few weeks. A long-term setback to any of the players might leave the manager without options going into the second half of the season.

The Magpies made three signings in the summer to bolster their attacking ranks in Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Andy Carroll. Joelinton has not lived up to the hype that surrounded his transfer value as he failed to emulate his goalscoring form, which was exuberant in his Hoffenheim days.

Miguel Almiron is yet to open his account, whereas old guns Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle have not been prolific in their attempts to finish off well for the team. Yoshinori Muto remains out of favour under Steve Bruce. Thus, no one can deny the fact that the Magpies are in dire need of an attacker at the moment.

Therefore, Newcastle must make a move for Dwight McNeil in January, as they have been long-time admirers, according to Chronicle Live. He has proven to be a valuable member of Sean Dyche’s squad and at a very young age, he has shown the ability to do well in the Premier League.

He would be the perfect fit for Bruce’s side as he can play in any attacking position and would be a valuable asset to an injury-stricken Newcastle side.

The 20-year-old is a livewire on the field and could go on to establish himself as one of the best wingers in the league. Being a huge fan of Ryan Giggs, he surely must have learned a thing or two from the Welshman.

Verdict

The Magpies need stability upfront at the moment and McNeil would provide that while adding much-needed quality and firepower to their dull attack.

Therefore, to see a change in their results and finish at a respectable position by the end of the season, Newcastle must push hard to secure the services of McNeil at the earliest.
